N. W. Clayton of GOUtah! issued the following Press Release after the November election. This release was made in response to request from Linda Thomson, Deseret Morning News staff writer, "about Judge Leslie Lewis and the fact that voters chose not to re-elect her."
GOUtah! (Gun Owners of Utah) believes that the failure of Utah 3rd District Court Judge Leslie Lewis to be retained in yesterday’s election should be of interest to gun owners and deer hunters. "Utah’s law-abiding hunters will no longer have to worry about being handcuffed, severely berated, and thrown in a holding pen for the mere act of walking out of the spectators’ gallery of Judge Lewis’ courtroom, because she won’t have a courtroom anymore. Nor will Judge Lewis be able to deliver lectures from the bench about the alleged evils of deer hunting," commented GOUtah! Communications Director N.W. Clayton.
Prior to the election, GOUtah! broadcast an e-mail alert to Utah gun owners describing Judge Lewis’ bizarre actions earlier this year toward two deer hunters in her court, one of whom had not been charged with any crime, and we provided a link to the YouTube™ video documenting Lewis’ actions. We believe that we helped make a significant number of law-abiding gun owners aware of the fact that Ms. Lewis, while acting in her official capacity as a judge, had unabashedly expressed extreme prejudice against a lawful activity that many of them engage in.
